I'm Maegan! You can call me Mae, Harls, or even Rocky.

I've been in the hair/art world for over 10 years professionally,

but a creative individual for the length of my existence.

I'm comfortable with all types of hair, all genders, and all ages.

My chair is a safe place. <3

Let’s talk about my buddy Kara Murphy, and our story 🖤

In june of 2021 @misssiofra came to me, at the time still in boy mode, using a name that is now officially dead as a (coffin)nail.
Standing in front of me, she was the first trans woman to ever share such a beautiful journey with me. I’d known trans/nonbinary peers & youth, but at that point in my life had not had anyone fully let their guard down & just let me in, and allow me to help her see herself the way she’d always pictured herself.

She let down her hair from her ponytail & with it all of her inhibitions. We shaped and colored her hair, and I watched as she left my chair a changed woman, who felt more comfortable in her skin.
Consistently through the years I have watched her comfort grow as she walks in a room proudly as the woman she has always wished to be; and with it, so has my heart, my empathy, & my understanding for what it means (and how it feels) to be a safe space for others.

The impact you all have on me maybe doesn’t get mentioned quite often enough, but I do hope each of you know that you all continue to inspire growth and creativity in my life, and that I never understate how grateful I am for each and every bit of you who have sat in my chair and trusted me - with your hair, lives, secrets, loves, heartbreaks, celebrations, downfalls, and hell, even sharing your friends and families with me.

I hope that I can always continue to be a safe space for all of you.

Did quite possibly the coolest thing by far that I’ve done with beaded weft extensions on my beautiful steal-your-heart nurse @christineeliz88 and unfortunately you can’t even see it in the photos.
Every other bead has fairy hair worked in to the extensions and the pop that it added to the hair was soooo cool 🤩

With the first picture being a nod to my name change and new door ornament, I also want to take a second to acknowledge the group of girls that make up @bestillsalon.

There is no shortage of emotion or sappy fruity gushy love I could spout off for these amazing, talented individuals who stand beside me weekly as we share our lives with each other.

They don’t lie when they say the people who you surround yourself with make a difference, and that your coworkers make up 70% of your life; when you’re unhappy in your work environment it shows. The opposite can be said when you’re thriving.
I am so grateful to be a part of a tribe of supportive women who will pray with you and for you when life is kicking you down, who will laugh with you and celebrate with you when you’re winning, and hug you when you’re sad even if that’s not their love language but they know it’s yours. Grateful for the moments I share bouncing ideas and knowledge off of each other, loving each others kids as a village as moms helping moms.
Forever inspired by this wonderful community we’ve built over the years and can’t wait to see how it grows.

Shattered Rainbow (concept) : rainbow made of shattered glass pieces, symbolizing the transformation and beauty that can emerge from brokenness.

Atelier : (noun;) A workshop or studio, especially one used by an artist or designer. e.g.: An atelier is a room where artists make their work. A painter’s atelier will be full of paint, brushes, canvases, and other tools of the trade.

If you’ve been with me since the beginning, you were there for my era of Manes by Maegan. You’ve watched for years as I’ve grown into the artist that I am today. • Impact. •

A small and simple word that these last few years of my life has resonated so deeply in my core that when I have things that serendipitously happen these days, I’m reminded of the people who got me to the place I am today.

Had I not had this woman in my life in cosmetology school, I wouldn’t have made it through it at all. Or I may have, but I would have lost a whole lot of hope in the process. This woman saw a determined, but very broken spirited young lady and picked her up off the floor, wiped tears off her face, hugged her, and kept her moving forward.

So when I coincidentally happened to run into her on a day that I needed inventory and our local salon centric was having a pulp riot class, as she rounded the corner and spotted my bright pink hair I could hear the smile in her voice while she said, “is that my girl?”, all I could do was drop my armful of things and hug her and show her a moment of gratitude for how she got me through these last 12 years.

I hear this woman’s words ringing in my ears in so many aspects of my life, a gentle reminder to “get over your comfort wall” every time I get stuck in something, or anxious about the future or a project I’m working on. Even when im outside of the salon and working through the anxiety of putting wheels on my feet again after they broke me, twice.. It never fails. Her smooth voice rings in my brain reminding me to push past it and keep going, and not let anything hold me back, including myself.

• Impact. •

A small and simple word that these last few years of my life has resonated so deeply in my core that when I have things that serendipitously happen these days, I’m reminded of the people who got me to the place I am today.

Had I not had this woman in my life in cosmetology school, I wouldn’t have made it through it at all. Or I may have, but I would have lost a whole lot of hope in the process. This woman saw a determined, but very broken spirited young lady and picked her up off the floor, wiped tears off her face, hugged her, and kept her moving forward.

07•07•24 marks 4 years that I’ve been splattering the paints literally on every surface possible in the safety of my home away from home, @bestillsalon

Through all of the peaks and valleys of those four years, this salon has been there in all of its consistency, welcoming me on my hardest days when I just had to hang it all up at the door and create, to the best days when I came in grinning ear to ear ready to share with my family whatever news or cool thing that was happening or sporting a new do/costume/outfit/style, to the in betweens of crying on a couch sharing stories with the people who have built a life with me away from my home.

Today I sit grateful, for all of the clients who followed me until I found a home base, for all of the lives I’ve impacted who have impacted me, for the coworkers who supported me when my world was falling apart and cheered me on when I was climbing mountains, for all of the families who have brought me in as part of their family, for all of the milestones you all have shared with me, for all of the kids I’ve watched grow to be teens and the teens who have grown to be adults, and for all the moments I pushed through when it maybe would have been easier to just set it down and walk away.

My life has severely shifted for the better since I stepped through these doors, and I know for a fact that no matter where we go from here, we’re all so deeply interconnected that all of you will be with me for the rest of my life.

Fresh hairs got me feeling like a *sky sky sky skyliiiine* during golden hour & ready for the weekend.

(And yes this was semi brought on by everyone asking me what I was doing with my hair 😅 leave me alone guys I trying not to fry my hairs & pastel semis fade fast, besides, it’s yalls hair times not mine - let me let my hot mess fly 😅😂)

Pelvis Trophy plant holder (with added bonus of lava lamp vibes)

The story : most of you know I had to take some time off from the salon a few months ago after sustaining a pretty serious ankle break (the second one in less than a years time) with this one being pretty serious I went through a surgery to reattach my bones together & went through weeks of PT, during which at one point my trainer challenged me to hold a minute long balancing pose with my eyes closed & told me he’d give me a prize if I made it, when I did I was sent home with the pelvis from the window as my trophy & ended up making sure to make good use of it by bringing it into my suite with a lil planty in it (that I got from the gem of a human who does all my piercings and owns @peacefulpiercer ) & it has remained one of the most talked about features in my suite 😂

Moral of the story, celebrate the small wins in your periods of downfalls and find the beauty in breathing life into them.

Under appreciated Spanish moss airplant holder 🌿

The story: it’s no secret that I’m a lover of plants, adventures, and collecting small bits of nature with intention of grounding myself whenever I feel a bit frenzied. The first adventure @burieddearmicrowave and I took with my little octopi @sp3nc3r2009 we ventured out to murrels inlet & roamed the @brookgreen_gardens, as we stroll we usually find bits off the ground to collect so that we can leave unharmed and mostly unaffected, we found this beautiful clump of Spanish moss and it felt like the perfect home for little air plants I’ve collected since claiming my room in the salon. When I’m feeling out of touch it’s always nice to reconnect and have my hands in the dirt and plants I surround myself with, and it’s always nice to reminisce our adventures, especially in moments when the sunlight hits my room just right & everything is perfectly placed.
